Jon was born in California and spent most of his time in and around the ocean growing up. The ocean was a place that brought him peace intertwined with the deep connection that bound both. His family relocated to the Midwest where the woods became his temporary ocean but he never forgot and always had planned to return.

After graduating college, he decided to take the chance to move to Maui, Hawaii where he had never been before. He became an elementary school teacher where he was able to put into practice his master's degree in education and where he could combine his passion for the ocean with his passion for teaching.

After some time, Jon decided he needed to share the beauty of what lies beneath the surface and what he felt when he was there with others so they could discover and unravel unknown parts of their own self.

Some of the ways that Jon discovered he could share his passion was through teaching others to overcome physical and mental obstacles of freediving in a safe environment. He does this by teaching new FII students to develop and learn proper techniques and procedures which he knows are the key elements to overcome fears and/or meet new goals, and therefore truly discover what the ocean has to offer.

His life experiences have expanded his current hobbies which include but not limited to hunting, fishing, spearfishing, and of course freediving.
